The song title is derived from Samuel Beckett’s famous play ‘Waiting for Godot’ which explores the futility and meaningless of human existence. Our song is critical of the Church’s position on gay marriage and the inherent hypocrisy of this when compared to its other teachings. It was written in response to the Church of England’s General Synod yet again rejecting a proposal to permit gay couples to marry in church.
