This is a 4 movement work, with plenty of virtuosic display, and dark humour. Prokofiev himself played it too!
The work is scored for piano solo, two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, tambourine and strings.
Andantino—Allegretto (10–12 minutes)Scherzo: Vivace (2–3 minutes)Intermezzo: Allegro moderato (6–8 minutes)Finale: Allegro tempestoso (10–11 minutes)
