With a decade’s hindsight, Vince Freeman can see that his 2012 appearance on first series of BBC1’s
The Voice falls into the “chasing fame” category. Auditioning for a show in which he made it to the final 40
alongside future dance queen Becky Hill wasn’t entirely Freeman’s decision – he was encouraged by a
major label A&R who was courting him. Equally, though, he’d put in the legwork to earn a moment or two
in the nation’s living room: at the time, Freeman was playing some 300 gigs a year.
